The soldier’s heart swelled as he saw the boy. He held out his arms and bounded towards him. As the smiling man approached the boy turned and ran towards the house. “Momma,” he cried as he jumped into the lap of a woman sitting on the porch. The woman took up the child as the black dog who had been sleeping by her feet awoke suddenly. The dog leapt off the porch and ran to the soldier wagging his tail. “Argos, good buddy,” the soldier said as he bent down to greet the dog. The woman stood to see who was there.
