Snow Fall

buttonWeek 9 of Write at the Merge gave two phrases: snow fall and a secret revealed.

I also used a prompt from Mama Kat workshop-button-1to incorporate the phrase “stop looking at me like that” into your post. – See more at: http://www.mamakatslosinit.com/blog/#sthash.wH3Mj3Gq.dpuf

I had started writing a longer piece about the two women from last week’s entry, but found that it needs more time to be developed and probably more than 500 words. So, here I have condensed it into a poem:

Snow falls

All around

This sleepy town,

Lace patterns on a flowing white dress,

A veil being pulled down

So many frozen molecules

On a heavy descent to earth

A flit and flurry of feathery ice crystals

Covering the ground

Everything stopped

Shut down

As snow falls

Shh…

Stuck,

Cancelled at the gate

Hush,

Home

And husband will have to wait

While snow falls

Not alone, she is here

Sipping drinks and sharing stories:

Stories of childhood,

“…Start catching snowflakes on your tongue,” She laughs

A silver lining

As snow falls

No two alike

Shh…

Stuck,

Cancelled at the gate

Snow falls

Outside

Inside fires burn

Geometric prints on a skimming silk dress,

Hair let down,

So many intimate moments

Suddenly, she swoops close,

A flit and flurry of tongues

I stop,

Stiffen

Then succumb

Melt

As snow falls

Shh…

Stuck,

Cancelled at the gate

Hush

Over my body,

While snow falls

Between us

Alone

She is there

Sitting on the stool, sipping her drink

Stories untold,

“Stop looking at me like that,” she says.

The temperature drops,

As snow falls

Shh…

Stuck,

Cancelled at the gate

As

Snow falls

  1. I like the refrain here of cancelled at the gate, and the snow; makes a great framework for the heat of the passages in between. And there’s some definite heat here despite the snow!
